The Giorgetti Showroom

Many people may not know this about Miniature Pinschers (the breed of which I am), but we were created many years ago by crossing the Dachshund with the Italian Greyhound. The reason I am telling you this relatively pointless fact is merely to say that Italian runs hot in my blood line, so I am naturally drawn the furniture style generally known as “contemporary Italian.” There are many fine designers and atelier houses that showcase this style, but today I will speak about Giorgetti.

Ino SquareIno Square 2In particular, Giorgetti features two masterfully petite home bar cabinets in the 2011 Ino collection by Chi Wing Lo. Made from a wonderfully warm walnut canaletto wood, the cabinet comes in a classic two door style, as well as an edgier Ino Cylindercylindrical style with a single curved metal door.  Both styles are illuminated inside with warm tone LED lights and have movable glass shelves that almost appear to float within.  You can have the interior finished with white wood or gold leaf decoration.  I personally adore the gold leaf, no it’s not over the top Vatican gold, but a subtle sheen that brings the entire interior to life.

Arabella ChairAlso spotted at the Giorgetti showroom, was a pair of Arabella chairs in soft ivory leather.  And let’s face it, you will need a place to sit down while enjoying the contents of your Ino bar.  The chairs have a sensual asymmetrical design and a swivel base trimmed in bronze finish (which perfectly matches the bronze detail on the Ino by the way).  The curved back is inviting and despite the minimalist exterior, they are quite comfortable.  Although I doubt the fine people at Giorgetti would allow me to enjoy a nap.  Or maybe a snooze in their Plaza Penthouse??  Now, that would be the dog’s life!

Zen Wine Bar

Recently, I was Googling “Zen”… not a typical search term for a canine, but maybe I was not quite feeling one with the world or maybe it is just the new year that has me reflecting on finding the deeper balance within me… Regardless, I found myself gazing at this “Zen Wine Bar” design by Brian Fuller out of California.  Handmade of maple and walnut and beautifully stained. This piece can serve as peaceful inspiration for creating your own custom home Zen wine experience… just add a smooth red, candles, and a bamboo flute.

For a long winter’s night…

Dang it!  Santa, I totally forgot to put this on my list!  I know its too late now for Christmas, but how about a new years gift?  Happy January gift??  The Orvis Wine Barrel Dog Bed combines two of my favorites – wine and napping!  And it looks oh so comfy cozy!Wine Barrel Bed

Please note that possession of this bed in no way guarantees my abstaining from the humans’ bed!

Entertaining in the Round

Recently an article was published in the New York Times giving New Yorkers shopping suggestions for space efficient home bars.  Now, as a dog, I am not supposed to be disagreeable, I am supposed to wag my tail and be overflowing with unconditional love and praise for anything humans do.  However, I do disagree with some of the article’s suggestions… it bothers me that anyone would suggest a stylish New Yorker go to Crate & Barrel or Bed, Bath, & Beyond for cutting edge bar design.  Really?  That’s where they go in Idaho.  Not that I am saying there is anything wrong with these retailers, they are perfectly suitable for the occasional throw pillow or napkin ring, but for the centerpiece of your home entertaining – not so much.

If you have to purchase a ready made bar, go to someone who knows something about design (I am excluding us as the design geniuses we are for the purpose of this post)… someone… like… say… I don’t know… Armani Casa?

Armani Casa has two great circular options.  The aptly named “Circle” bar cabinet is a sleek and sublime coffee table with cleverly hidden bar storage.  Armani Circle Bar Cabinet

Or the matching, but more vertical, cylinder option of the “Cooper,” at 25″ height can be used as more of a side table.

Both have organizing compartments and easy full rotation.  As the talented copy writers at Armani Casa write “Thanks to a fixed turning base, this storage may be turned 360 degrees and can be used while staying seated in front of it” – but I have no problem telling it like it is… it’s a fancy Lazy Susan!

Wood, Wine, and Silk

Wine furniture should never be boring.  No matter if your piece is large or small, always take it to the next level with high-end and different finishes.

Slim Butlers StationFor example, look at this small “Butler’s Station” (a near necessity when serving wine with little room to move).  At first glance, it may be mistaken for the traditionally styled modern wine furniture in its espresso finish, but look closer to admire the interior backing of the cabinet is lined with silk tapestry.  The subtle sheen of the burgundy and gold fabric allows light to reflect back out, providing visual depth, and adding extra sparkle to hanging stemware.  These unique details make your wine collection and your home special.

Should They Really Be Called “Coffee Tables?”

Hello All,

My favorite topic of discussion is naturally things that I personally have done (as I imagine true of most canines and humans alike).  Coming in a close second is the topic of notable activities of the firm I represent, Wine Life Design.  Recently, we introduced two new wine furniture designs, the Cube Coffee Table and the W Coffee Table.

The W Coffee Table

The W Coffee Table- Marble Base and Glass Top

Cube Glass Top Coffee Table

We are particularly proud of these two new additions as they shy away from the traditional credenza or side cabinet format of most wine furniture meant for the living space.  They display, quite literally, your wine as a central conversation piece.  Both tables are big on sophisticated design, and small on actual wine space (16-32 bottles) and are ideal for your ready to drink casual wines.

And like all of our creations, your coffee table is completely customized to your style and space.  Contact us for more information or to order: info@winelifedesign.com or 646-824-0280.

Good Boy… Bar Boy

Bar Boy Compact Bar CartIn general my human mom, being in the custom home bar design business, frowns upon my blogging about ready made bar solutions.  However, if you are not going to go custom, we prefer you skip the mass produced press-board horrors and head straight for good design.  One of our favorite shops, Design Within Reach (DWR), offers this sleek and circular design by Verner Panton, known as the Bar Boy, perfect for a small home bar in minimal space.  This black and chrome beauty only has a diameter of 15″ when closed and is equipped with three storage compartments that swing out for access.  Note that you will need a larger than 15″ clearance area to open the compartments, but the rolling casters make it easy to move this bar cart anywhere.  When closed, the compartments hide all contents from sight in a perfect minimalist silo with table top to blend into any decor.
Another fabulous space saving entertaining gem available from DWR, is the Panton Party Set.  A sleek and sexy set of four chairs and an occassional table neatly stack into a single cylinder measuring only 20″ in diameter.  Perfect for instant fun party seating.

Creeating the Modern Vino Lounge… YOURS

As I just awoke from a long “dog-nap” on the living room sofa, I have selected modern living room furniture for today’s topic. Home wine storage and bar design is not all just about “where to put the booze,” but also about creating a relaxing atmosphere where you can entertain friends and enjoy the sweet moments of life. There are many aspects that go into creating an inviting entertaining space. Most notably, the furniture you place in that space can make or break the ambiance.

If you are looking for a modern, sleek, “vino lounge” feel… we encountered some unique contemporary and versatile furniture at the NYC WIne & Spirits Show last week. Check out the simple, yet chic, designs at Modern Line Furniture (www.modernlinefurniture.com).  Although, primarily used in hip commercial spaces, these pieces can easily transform your own living room into the city’s hottest night spot. They feature modern modular units that come in a myriad of colors and configurations for infinite design layout possibilities. And… BONUS… they also have a patio line for hot summer nights!

Back to napping now… typing with paws is tiring…
